Unit 2 – Creative formula manipulation
Creative formula manipulation is based in a large part on mastering the dialectic between freedom and determination in arithmetic:

  • Freedom:
    • Commutative and associative laws of addition and multiplication are the basis for a free arrangement and re-arrangement and free structured bracketing of operands.
    • Free and creative use of the two directions of the identity laws and its derivatives\(
      \begin{align*}
      a+0 &= a\\\
      a-a&=0\\\
      a*1&=a\\\
      \frac aa &=1\\\
      a*0&=0\\\
      (-1)*(-1)&=1
\end{align*}\)is the basis for insertion –> extension and for reduction.
  • Determination:
    • Distributive law of multiplication with respect to addition
    • Priority law + < * < ^ .

Unit 3 – The algorithm system „Signa in silico“: computer graphics, and applications in the areas of design and engineering
The algorithm system Signa in silico (AsSis), mimicking aspects of biological gene expression, generates a broad variety of computer graphics. The achievable pattern, color, and texture diversity is in many respect comparable with the biodiversity.

AsSis generates two-dimensional black/white or colored patterns as polygons (sequence of connected line segments of different length) or pixel arrays. An input sequence, the “genome” triggers an i.g. multistage recursive “expression” process that is controlled by scaling parameters and coupling functions.

  • transformation of a continued fraction into a common fraction,
  • representation of elementary functions by infinite 2by2 matrix chain products,
  • Horner scheme,
  • transformation of a nested expression into a common fraction,
  • Euler transformation of a polynomial into a continued fraction,
  • encoding and decoding in the 2by2 reduced Pythagorean triple tree,
  • electrical two-port network analysis and synthesis
  • decomposition of 2by2 coupling, chain, coding, … matrices into “atomic matrices”,
    • can be transformed into a 2by2 matrix chain product representation m domain,
    • can be so considered as structurally similar problems,
    • and can be uniformly and simpler handled as in the original domain (compression/merging of neighboring matrix groups to a product-matrix, decomposition into factor-matrices, regrouping, transformation, tuning, window and parallel processing…).

  • length of rivers or surfaces of lakes in a country
  • population number of towns and cities in a country and other demographic data
  • electricity and water bills etc. the leading digit kÎ{1,2,3,…,9} is non-uniform distributed. Surprisingly, we find similar non-uniform distributions of the numbers 0, 1, 2, …, 9 also in pure mathematical objects and problems.

Part 1 – Monster waves analogues in simple continued fractions
Wikipedia: Monster Waves (en) / Monsterwelle (de)
The simple continued fraction (scf) is a very efficient tool to analyze the “inner discrete (wave) structure” of mathematical constants and functions, f.e. \( e = 2.7182818284 \ldots = [2; 1, 2, 1, 1, 4, 1, 1, 6, 1, 1, 8, 1,\ldots] \). But the scf representation is also a tool to model “monster waves” (huge signals; local-temporal energy monster impacts/lines/bullets) in a background of “calm sea” (small noise).
